Mazanec, Raskin & Ryder Co., L.P.A., is pleased to announce that four attorneys from the firm have been named to the 2024 Ohio Super Lawyers list. The recognized attorneys include James A. Climer, John T. McLandrich, Joseph F. Nicholas and Frank H. Scialdone.
Super Lawyers is a Thomson Reuters business that selects outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The selection process includes a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation of candidates and peer reviews by practice area. Each year, no more than five percent of the lawyers in the state are selected for this honor.
James A. Climer has been named to the Super Lawyers list from 2017 to 2024. Jim is a partner with the firm, bringing 44 years of experience to the legal profession. Jim has been named a top-rated state, local and municipal attorney by Super Lawyers. His practice is focused on public sector law, employment law and labor law. He has considerable experience advising and defending governmental entities and their employees, including counties, municipalities, townships, school boards, park districts, and social service agencies. Jim currently serves as the Law Director for the Village of Oakwood.
John T. McLandrich, a partner in the firm, has been named to the Super Lawyers list from 2017 to 2024 for his work as a civil rights attorney. John focuses his practice on representing municipalities, including defending cases on behalf of police and public entities alleging violations of civil rights as guaranteed by the First, Fourth, Fifth, Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution. For over 30 years he has handled matters including claims of jail suicide, police pursuit, false arrest, malicious prosecution, wrongful conviction, denial of medical care, excessive force by police officers including officer-involved shootings, and failure to properly train police officers. McLandrich has represented civil defendants in federal and state courts throughout Ohio in addition to serving as lead trial counsel in both state and federal courts. His appellate experience consists of handling and arguing matters before the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, where he has argued over 100 cases, as well as hundreds of cases before many of Ohio’s Courts of Appeal, including the Ohio Supreme Court, where he has won eight favorable decisions. John has earned his 2023 Super Lawyer rating for his work in Civil Rights Law.
Joseph F. Nicholas, a partner in the firm, has again been named a top-rated attorney by Super Lawyers as an insurance coverage attorney. A 37-year professional, he focuses his practice on the defense of various professionals including lawyers, accountants, and insurance agents and brokers for claims of malpractice, errors and omissions, as well as professional licensing issues.
In addition to his professional liability practice, Joe has significant experience handling commercial trucking (long haul and short haul) as well as commercial coach carrier matters. His practice also includes litigation of insurance coverage and bad faith issues, various general liability claims, and construction defect matters as well as counselling small and mid-size companies relative to risk management.
Frank H. Scialdone, a partner with the firm, has been named an Ohio Super Lawyer every year since 2015 as a top-rated appellate attorney. Frank focuses his practice on appellate advocacy in state and federal courts with an emphasis on employment law, constitutional torts (Section 1983), public entity defense, and insurance defense. He has handled more than 200 appellate cases in the Ohio Supreme Court, Ohio’s intermediate appellate district courts, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. He routinely consults with trial attorneys on error preservation and pre-appeal strategy. Frank has prosecuted and defended original actions (e.g., mandamus, prohibition, etc.) and has submitted amicus curiae (friend of the court) briefs on behalf of clients and organizations. He is one of the first attorneys to be certified as a specialist in appellate law by the Ohio State Bar Association.
