MRR Announces Thomas S. Mazanec Retirement

After 43 years serving the legal community and 40 years as a founding partner at Mazanec, Raskin & Ryder Co., L.P.A., Thomas S. Mazanec began a well-deserved retirement on January 1st, 2020. Although Tom is no longer an active full-time attorney at MRR, he will remain in an advisory role as “Of Counsel” with the firm.

Since 1980, Tom has played an essential role in establishing many of MRR’s practice specialties. He has served as a lead trial attorney in the firm’s Cleveland and Columbus offices, and has tried numerous matters to verdict. Insurance carriers often hired Tom to try catastrophic and high exposure cases throughout the State of Ohio, attributable to his easy rapport with juries and innovative use of technology. Throughout his career, he has handled general liability, liquor liability and construction defect cases. He has also defended doctors, lawyers, insurance agents, accountants, appraisers, and home inspectors in professional negligence matters.

In addition to being an award-winning attorney, Tom has been involved in his community and abroad to do what he is best at – helping others. He has counseled incarcerated juveniles, traveled to various mid-west inner cities for mission work, accompanied a Church mission group to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and then traveled to Haiti and India on other mission trips to serve the needs of those less fortunate.

It is never easy to bid farewell to a founding partner of the firm, and we will miss working with Tom on a daily basis. Those of us who know Tom well are confident that he will not in fact retire, but rather shift his focus to pursue his passions and enjoy his grandchildren. Joe Nicholas, Managing Partner of the firm, stated: “On behalf of everyone at MRR, I wish to thank Tom not only for his knowledge and skill as a lawyer, but more importantly, for the person he is; a kind, generous and thoughtful man who made us smile.” We congratulate Tom on a wonderful career and wish him the very, very best on the next chapter of his life!
